One of the most popular drinks in the Dominican Republic is morir sonando, a drink that’s so good it literally translates to die dreaming. But you just won’t get it until you tried it!
Think about combining refreshing, freshly squeezed orange juice with a cold glass of milk plus a little vanilla. And this drink hits different when paired with los tres golpes or a breakfast sandwich.

Squeeze your own oranges or use store-brought OJ
A morir sonando with freshly squeezed orange juice is unmatched, but you can also use store brought orange juice if you’re in a time crunch or don’t have access to fresh oranges. You may even be able to skip the sugar since bottled OJ is on the sweeter side!
Step by step instructions

- In a pitcher or large bowl, combine the juice of 4 oranges and the ice. Mix for 1-2 minutes using a spoon, making sure the orange juice is completely chilled.

- Add the vanilla extract to the mixture and then slowly add the evaporated milk while mixing continuously with a spoon.

- Give it a taste and optionally add sugar for extra sweetness. Give it a final mix then serve immediately. Buen provecho!
Ice is the main character in this beverage
A morir sonando isn’t a morir sonando without a hefty amount of ice. This drink needs to be served ice cold, so don’t skip it and don’t be afraid to add a few extra cubes at the end before serving.
