Dominican White Rice (Arroz Blanco)

Authentic Dominican white rice is rice that's good enough to eat on its own, and the perfect side dish for any Dominican meal.

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • cups water
  • 1 cup extra long grain rice washed

Instructions
 

  • In a pot over medium heat, combine oil and salt. Let it got hot, which should only take about 2-3 minutes, then carefully add the water to the pot.
  • Let the water come to a boil before adding the rice. Stir the rice and cook until almost all of the water is absorbed, stirring frequently to prevent from sticking.
  • After most of the water is absorbed, use a spoon to form a mound in the center of the pot with the rice, making sure no rice is touching the sides. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and fluff with a fork. Let it sit covered for 5 minutes and enjoy with a side of habichuelas guisadas. Buen provecho!

Notes

If you're doubling or tripling the recipe, you'll need to let it cook a little longer:
2 cups of rice = cook for 25 minutes covered
3 cups of rice = cook for 30 minutes covered
4 cups of rice = cook for 35 minutes covered
