Batata Frita (Dominican Sweet Potato Fries)

Ingredients
  

  • 1 batata Japanese sweet potato
  • Water
  • Frying oil
  • Salt

Instructions
 

  • Peel the batata and cut it into thin round slices.
  • In a large bowl, add enough water to fully cover the batata slices and a sprinkle of salt. Stir until salt dissolves then ad the batata slices and let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the batata slices from the water and pat them dry.
  • Over low to medium heat, add just enough oil in a frying pan to cover the bottom of the pan.
  • Add the batata slices to the pan and fry for 5 minutes, or until golden brown. Make sure to flip every minutes or so to ensure all sides get cooked evenly.
  • Remove the batata slices from the oil and place them on a paper towel lined plate and season them with salt to taste. Buen provecho!

Notes

Oven method
Bake the fries with a sprinkle of salt and a drizzle of oil at 425°F for 10-15 minutes, flipping them half way through, until they're golden brown.
Airfry method
Toss the batata slices with a little oil and salt and air fry them at 375°F for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until they're is golden brown and crispy.
